shenandoah mountain and brandywine rec area

It is such a dream to have Tom home!!  He took the kids to Shenandoah Mountain and Brandywine Recreation Area back in January and they all had fun so we decided to go again, now not in the winter.  It was a really great hike!  I was having some concern about poison ivy but it was unwarranted.  Everyone wasn't happy all the time...people got bored and frustrated here and there.  Other times they loved it and were super pleasant.  We got up to the top of the mountain and climbed up High Knob Fire Tower (no longer used) but the view was amazing!  There were also some goldfish crackers tossed around in memory of their January hike but I honestly didn't really get it.

After making it back down (some bribery was necessary for some people) and getting to the car we drove down the mountain to a lovely lake area where we had a picnic and some of the kids did some swimming.  There were the most amazing butterflies that were almost tame on the little beach. They had the most beautiful turquoisey blue wings, my camera so did not do the job well.  But it was a nice afternoon.
